South Carolina Governer Nikki Haley announced Friday that, “This is not a good day for South Carolina.” The bad news was having to admit a massive security breach in the State’s Department of Revenue that resulted in the theft of 3.6 million social security numbers and 387,000 credit/debit card numbers (only 16,000 of which, it is believed, were unencrypted,) This incident affects more than three-quarters of South Carolina’s 4.6 million population.

Waiters allegedly skimmed customer data and passed it to associates who made counterfeit cards to buy luxury merchandise and sell it.

About 200,000 Citibank credit card customers in North America have had their names, account numbers and email addresses stolen by hackers who broke into Citi's online account site.

The attack also has crippled Sony's PlayStation Network, which has some 70 million subscribers and has been down since April 20... The hacker could have taken credit card numbers, card expiration dates, billing addresses, answers to security questions and purchase history, but not credit-card security codes...

The company said an “unauthorized person” had obtained personal information about its account-holders, possibly including their credit card numbers.
