Betaworks’ News.me Shuts Down Its Apps, Team Heads Over To Digg

News.me, the social news service incubated at betaworks, announced today that it’s officially shutting down its iOS apps and removing them from the App Store. The company is also claiming that it’s yet another victim of Twitter’s latest API guidelines, and states that Twitter may have even viewed its service as a competitor. We might not go that far, but it makes for a good story.

Twitter has bought TweetDeck, the desktop and mobile application for organising tweets in handy columns, for more than $40 million in a cash and stock deal, CNN Money reports citing sources close to the deal. But there’s no confirmation from either player in this game: “For all those who might be curious, we continue not to comment on rumors,” Twitter’s global PR account tweeted earlier this morning. There were no tweets at all on the matter from TweetDeck founder Iain Dodsworth.

UberMedia, which owns several popular applications that interface with Twitter, is outlining plans to build a social network that could compete with that popular microblogging platform, said three people who were briefed on the plans.

UberSocial, formerly UberTwitter, and Twidroyd now back online

All the people who use these clients on Android, Blackberry and IOS were no longer able to gain access to the popular social network from their mobile device.
