NEW YORK (AP) — The DreamWorks animated alien adventure "Home" beat out the Will Ferrell, Kevin Hart comedy "Get Hard" at the box office, but both films debuted strongly.

Senh: I thought "Home," with its colorful Minion-like characters, would do well, but not this well. Although I shouldn't be surprised because it was one of those few films that my kids wanted to see months in advance. "Get Hard" is a broad comedy that drew fans from both Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart. Both aren't great films, but get the job done for their target audiences.

Jeremy Renner's action tale "The Bourne Legacy" took over as the No. 1 movie with a $40.3 million debut, according to studio estimates Sunday. Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis' political comedy "The Campaign" opened at No. 2 with $27.4 million.

Sony's buddy-cop action comedy " The Other Guys," starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, sped to the top of the daily boxoffice rankings with an estimated $13.2 million from its first day in movie theaters on Friday.

Senh: It's an odd pairing, but "The Other Guys" got surprisingly good reviews. With Will Ferrell's string of box office duds lately ("Land of the Lost"), it's welcome news for him. "Step Up 3D" did ok, not nearly as well as the first two. I'm glad it's in 3D, so now studios can finally stop doing 3D conversions just to score an extra buck.
