RATINGS RAT RACE: ‘Glee’ & ‘Community’ Up Big, ‘American Idol’ ‘& “Big Bang Theory’ Slip, ’1600 Penn’ & ‘Person Of Interest’ Tie

Ending its three-night live round, American Idol (3.5/10) pared it down to the final 10 contestants of Season 12 on Thursday. Spilling two minutes over, the scheduled 90-minute live show had a lot of Ryan Seacrest shuttling back and forth to the holding room to bring the lucky ones back on stage. It also had a mixed bag of ratings results.

Last night featured two season finales and a time-slot premiere. Fox’s Raising Hope, which has already been renewed for next fall, wrapped its second season with a 1.9/5 in adults 18-49, even with last week’s fast national (up a tenth from the final). Its lead-in, New Girl (2.7/7), was down a tenth from last week, while Glee (2.4/7) was down 11% to a series low.

TV Ratings: 'Glee' crushes 'NCIS' on Premiere Tuesday as CBS, FOX split

After the disastrous "Lone Star" premiere left FOX miserable on Monday, a smashing Tuesday launch for "Glee" gave the network something to smile about. The second year sensation crushed CBS' reliable hit "NCIS" in all key young adult demos and carried FOX to a Tuesday win among young viewers, though "NCIS" still won handily overall and gave CBS a Tuesday in overall.

With its power hitters, "Glee" and "American Idol," at the plate Tuesday night, Fox won the adult 18-49 race for a third consecutive evening, with the former freshman series becoming the top-rated scripted series of the season in the process.
