House Democrats elected Nancy Pelosi to remain as their leader Wednesday despite massive party losses in this month's congressional elections that prompted some lawmakers to call for new leadership.

Rep. Kendrick Meek is the Democratic nominee for Senate, overcoming billionaire Jeff Greene's massive television and mail onslaught to win a bitter Florida primary. Meek will face off against Gov. Charlie Crist and Republican Marco Rubio in November.

People briefed on the matter say Representative Joe Sestak was offered an unpaid advisory position in exchange for ending his challenge to Senator Arlen Specter.
