'Apes' take over box office: $54M

Now here’s some monkey business that everyone in Hollywood will take seriously! Rise of the Planet of the Apes conquered the box office with a tremendous $54 million in its debut weekend. The $90 million Fox reboot/prequel exceeded all expectations and churned out the fifth-best August opening of all time. And it did it all without any of that pesky 3D!

 

Cowboys and Aliens team bringing Lara Croft back to the big screen

It looks as if the reported TOMB RAIDER reboot is moving ahead as COWBOYS & ALIENS and IRON MAN writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby have signed on to write a Lara Croft based script. Producer Graham King (THE DEPARTED) made a deal for the rights from Eidos in March and is serious about launching a new franchise.

Laurence Fishburne Has Been Added to the PREDATORS Cast List

IESB has been visiting the set of 20th Century Fox' PREDATORS today in Austin, Texas where it was revealed to us that veteran actor Laurence Fishburne had been added to the cast of the film, most likely because he was on set today as well and none of us knew he was in the film. Fishburne will play the character called Noland and will appear as an uncredited cameo role in the Robert Rodriguez produced film.
