GM's September U.S. auto sales up 20 percent

General Motors Co and Chrysler Group reported September U.S. auto sales gains of at least 20 percent, a sign that consumers have returned as vehicle inventories have risen after being crimped by the March earthquake in Japan.

Senh: I didn't know that the Japanese earthquake has an effect on American automakers unless parts are being manufactured there. If that's the case, it would be ironic.

 

Trade deficit narrows in April to $43.7 billion

American companies sold more computers, heavy machinery and telecommunications equipment in foreign markets in April, pushing exports to a record high. Imports declined, reflecting a big drop in auto imports from Japan caused by supply disruptions from the March earthquake and tsunami.

 

Toyota, Nissan to Resume Some Domestic Production

Toyota and Nissan they will resume production at all factories in Japan in mid-to-late April at about half their normal pace, joining Honda in an industrywide move to restart production halted by the March 11 earthquake.
