Oz: The Great and Powerful made the most over the weekend by far, earning just over the top of its predicted range of revenues at $80.2 million.

 

Box Office: ‘Oz’ Great and Powerful with $80 Million Opening

Though the sky’s not the limit, the opening weekend gross for “Oz the Great and Powerful” is certainly over the rainbow. Disney’s fantasy prequel earned $24.1 million Friday, and is looking at a three-day take close to $80 million. This is great news for the Mouse after last weekend’s domestically disappointing “Jack the Giant Slayer”...

 

Rachel Weisz May Join Cast of ‘Oz: The Great and Powerful’

Walt Disney Pictures is in negotiations with actress Rachel Weisz for the Sam Raimi-directed “Oz: The Great and Powerful.” According to Deadline, the actress would play Evanora, the older and wicked sister of Theodora. The film is a prequel to “Wizard of Oz,” which revolves around the Oz’s arrival to a distant land and his encounters with the witches. Weisz was last seen in last year’s “The Whistleblower.” She has starred in several films including “The Lovely Bones,” “Definitely, Maybe,” “The Fountain,” and “The Mummy.” Other confirmed cast includes James Franco and Mila Kunis.
