The U. S. Supreme Court cleared the way for Arizona to carry out its third execution in the past year Wednesday following a closely watched First Amendment fight over the secrecy surrounding lethal injection drugs.
The Beaumont school district's newly installed board of managers could grant fired Superintendent Timothy Chargois a severance package, although state law does not require it.
It will be up to the seven board members and their newly retained law firm, Karczewski-Bradshaw, to negotiate an agreement between Chargois and Beaumont ISD that adheres to state law and district policy, said Texas Education Agency spokeswoman DeEtta Culbertson.
The board of managers unanimously voted Monday night to fire Chargois for good cause.
If he intends to appeal the board's decision, Chargois must file a written request for a hearing with an independent officer within 15 days after receiving notice of his termination, according to state education law.
