Barbera, Syrah, old vine Zinfandel, Sangiovese and Viognier are just a few of the luscious grapes that thrive in Amador’s mountain and hillside vineyards. Over the weekend of March 5 and 6, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., 43 wineries will host open houses offering tastes, library samples and barrel offerings, plus extras such as blending classes, live music and food pairings ($50 entire weekend; $35 Sunday only). Four Fires Wine and Food Festival: Nearly 50 wineries come together at the Amador County Fairgrounds in Plymouth for a showcase of more than 200 locally produced wines. Sample to your heart’s content while feasting on spit-roasted pork and lamb, giant pans of paella and barbecue. Beer and white wine and food pairings by local chefs will also be on offer.
