By Gene Phelps Daily Journal TUPELO – Southaven needed one play in overtime – a 10-yard pass to a wide-open Dylan Leggette from quarterback Matthew Martin – to defeat Tupelo 13-7 on Friday in a division showdown delayed by rain and lightning. The Golden Wave (3-4, 1-2) was looking to rebound from its 33-9 Division 1-6A home loss last week to Columbus, but sputtered on offense without the services of senior quarterback Daniel Bristow, who was sidelined for an undisclosed reason. Tupelo failed to score on its overtime possession when it didn’t connect on a fourth-and-goal pass attempt from the 2-yard line. Southaven (4-3, 1-2) trailed 7-0 in the second half, but tied the game on a 3-yard run by Deaundre Wallace with 10 minutes, 45 seconds left. A fumble by Tupelo at its own 46, set up the Chargers’ key TD. Tupelo took its 7-point lead with 6:40 remaining in the third quarter on a blocked punt and recovery in the end zone by defensive end Chase Cannon. Tupelo was stopped twice in the first half – at the Southaven 4-yard line and at the 34 – on downs.
