Photographers at the Tacoma News Tribune were on scene early Thursday morning as the historic art deco ferry Kalakala completed its final voyage to the scrap yard. Decades of failed efforts to restore the iconic ferry resulted in the rusting ship meeting its ultimate fate. The video below shows the ferry traveling the Hylebos Waterway, under Tacoma’s 11th Street Bridge, and into Blair Waterway where it will be dry docked and scrapped.
