A shot clock is coming to Colorado high school basketball at the varsity level in 2026-27, passing by a vote of 40-30 at Tuesday’s CHSAA Legislative Council meeting at the DCSD Legacy Campus. The 35-second shot clock applies to all classifications, boys and girls. Since the National Federation of High Schools officially approved the shot clock in 2021 and other states began implementing it in 2022-23, Colorado basketball coaches and fans have been pushing for the shot clock here. That movement started to gain serious traction in 2023 when the basketball committee surveyed CHSAA member schools to gauge interest.

The Wall Street Journal and The Athletic reported the pending deal, citing unnamed people familiar with the negotiations between the sportswear giant and Clark’s agents. Justice Department announced a $138.7 million settlement Tuesday with more than 100 people who accused the FBI of grossly mishandling allegations of sexual assault against Larry Nassar in 2015 and 2016, a critical time gap that allowed the sports doctor to continue to prey on victims before his arrest. When combined with other settlements, $1 billion now has been set aside by various organizations to compensate hundreds of women who said Nassar assaulted them under the guise of treatment for sports injuries. Nassar worked at Michigan State University and also served as a team doctor at Indianapolis-based USA Gymnastics.
