Wallace Shawn would no doubt prefer it if you knew him as a radical playwright, the American successor to Chekhov and Ibsen, rather than as the lovable character actor of “The Princess Bride” and “Clueless” and innumerable other movie and TV roles. But Shawn, now 70 years old, appears more or less reconciled to what he calls the comical nature of his destiny.
