Do drivers need to keep bikes and bike racks clear of their rear plates? (seattlepi.com file photo) Q: A question we have regards bike racks mounted on the rear of vehicles, either hitch- or trunk-mounted. When attached, these may obscure the rear license plate, with or without bikes loaded. Some states have an exception for these, but we haven’t found any Washington rules except the rear plate may not be obscured.
