A fire in Prospect that began at midmorning Friday in an unpopulated area near Half Moon Pond burned at least 10 acres before being contained in the evening. The Maine Forest Service has classified much of Maine as in a high category of fire risk due to drought, including Waldo County, where Prospect is located. Crews from eight nearby towns joined volunteer firefighters from Prospect to fight the fire, along with the Maine Forest Service, which assisted via helicopter, according to Diane Terry, whose husband, Tim, is the chief of the volunteer fire department.
