Ohio has a strong backbone of community banks. That's the verdict from an annual report from American Banker that ranks the top performing community banks in the nation. The banking trade publication ranked the top 200 banks under $2 billion in assets by their three-year average return on equity from 2012 to 2014, which compares bank earnings to its underlying capital. These are all banks that are publicly listed or report financials to the SEC.
