Stories Related to $1m In Steuben Back Taxes

AlbanyThree downtown buildings eyed for ambitious residential redevelopment plans that never materialized — including the home of the soon-to-be-shuttered Steuben Athletic Club — have racked up more than $2 million in unpaid taxes, according to county records.Nearly $1 million of that debt hangs on 1 Steuben Place, home of the once venerable club for political and business elites, on which Albany County began to foreclose this summer. The club has struggled financially since reopening in 2011, and members were recently told it will close its doors for good at month's end.The 127-year-old landmark, the site of the city's first YMCA, is owned by Steuben Place Partners, long managed by Colonie businessman Herb Ellis.
