A new program to develop and support innovative temporary public art projects was announced earlier this month by Bloomberg Philanthropies. The group announced the “Public Art Challenge,” inviting mayors and chief executives in cities across the U.S. with 30,000 residents or more to submit proposals to fund projects that it said would: “engage communities, enhance creativity and enrich the vibrancy of cities,” as well as demonstrate close collaboration between artists, or arts organizations and city government.
