City officials have scrapped a $2 million contract proposal to restore downtown Augusta’s Archibald W. Butt Memorial Bridge, saying this week that the project will be redesigned to include repairs of three additional overpasses to save money on construction costs. The city’s decision to start fresh on Aug. 20 doesn’t halt the rebuilding plan, but is expected to add another delay to a project already running nine months behind schedule after only one contractor – JHC Corp., based in Peachtree City, Ga.
