Stories Related to Canadian Citizen Pleads Guilty To Stealing Id To Get Welfare

BANGOR — Prosecutors say a Canadian citizen has pleaded guilty to charges that he stole the identity of an American to receive welfare assistance. Court records say Robert Jerome Bond, 46, recently of Gardiner, Maine, applied for food stamps benefits in January 2011. Prosecutors say he was not eligible for the benefits at the time and improperly received more than $5,900. Bond pleaded guilty to charges of theft of public money and aggravated identity theft.
