By Tim Willert, Staff WriterCapitol Hill High School students will vote this week on a new mascot to replace Redskins and choose between a nearly extinct wolf or a mythical animal dubbed “king of all creatures.” A mascot selection group comprised of Capitol Hill students, staff members and alumni along with community members and American Indian representatives has decided on Red Wolves and Guardians, setting the stage for students to make the final selection. Students will vote Wednesday and Thursday, and their pick will be announced next month during an assembly at the school, 500 SW 36. Oklahoma City Public Schools spokeswoman Tierney Tinnin unveiled the final two choices and sketches of each mascot at Monday night’s school board meeting. In December, board members voted unanimously to ban the school’s 88-year-old mascot after some members of the American Indian community said they found the term Redskins offensive and harmful. The selection group was formed and members chose four alternatives to Redskins: Redhawks, Red Wolves, War Eagles and Nations.Read more on NewsOK.com
