Logan police on Thursday identified a man who was killed in a head-on crash that occurred during a high-speed chase near Sardine Canyon in Cache County.
A Utah Highway Patrol trooper had started chasing 26-year-old Marcos Torres, of Brigham City, at 2 p.m. on Wednesday after several people called 911 to report reckless and erratic driving, according to Logan Police Chief Gary Jensen, whose department was investigating the crash.

Republican Utah Gov. Gary Herbert is breaking with President Donald Trump over his new directive to bar transgender people from the military.
“I’m not going to defend President Trump on this issue,” the Republican governor said Thursday during his monthly press conference on KUED-TV.

Though his term doesn’t expire until next January, Eagle Mountain Mayor Christopher Pengra announced Wednesday he’ll be stepping down early — leaving the city to find a replacement for the last five months of his tenure.
His last day at City Hall will be Aug. 18.
Pengra announced his decision not to run for a second term in a public Facebook post at the end of May. “In the coming seven months, I intend to keep my foot on the pedal and finish strong,” he wrote.

The man piloting the plane that crashed Wednesday on Interstate 15 warned air traffic controllers what was about to happen, but gave no indications of any prior problems, according to radio traffic.
