Florida’s population is booming. Climate change is making temperatures and sea levels rise. And the state is also trying to protect animals and open land with the Florida Wildlife Corridor.
As the state grows hotter and more crowded in the future, it looks like a three-way collision.
But according to a new report by scientists from four major Florida universities, the wildlife corridor — if completed — will not only allow wildlife to survive in the coming decades, it will make climate change less destructive to humans.
To understand what the challenges Florida will face in 50 years, the report projected how hot Florida will become, how many people will move here, where they will live, and how much open land will be consumed under two growth plans: “sprawl” and “conservation.” The report then factored in climate change.
Scientists and land-use experts from Florida Atlantic University, the University of Florida, the University of Central Florida and the University of South Florida, as well as the Archbold Biological Station, all contributed their expertise.
What is the Florida Wildlife Corridor?
The Florida Wildlife Corridor, passed into state law in 2021, is still a work in progress, and aims to be an interconnected mosaic of state and national parks, open land and and working cattle ranches.
Dear Amy: My girlfriend of three years recently revealed a very deep and personal issue about me to a group of people.
We were at a party and she was drunk, but I was completely shocked and felt betrayed. This issue was one I shared with her with the understanding that I wanted to keep it completely private.
Two people at this party are family members of mine, and they are specifically the people I did not want to tell.
She knew that this was a deep secret she was holding.
I’m devastated and don’t want to be with her anymore.
She is begging for my forgiveness and says the fact that she was drunk should make this excusable.
What do you think I should do?
– Devastated
Dear Devastated: I think you should forgive her.
I also think you should break up with her.
Being drunk might excuse you having to hold her hair while she vomits into the toilet.

Q: Can we get out of Groundhog Day? Will this be the offseason when we target functional size? I’m tired of watching all of our undersized guys having to work so hard to overcome every game. That’s why they stay injured. – Ken.
A: I’m not sure of the correlation to injury, but the lack of size cannot summarily be dismissed.
