'Alice in Wonderland' ends Players Club of Swarthmore children's series

The Players Club of Swarthmore concludes its 2017-18 Children's Theater Series with the classic tale 'Alice in Wonderland' Aug. 11, 12, 18 19 at 11 a.m. and Aug. 11 at 3 p.m. at Players Club of Swarthmore, 614 Fairview Ave., in Swarthmore.Directed by Heather Timberman and written by Eric Humble, 'Alice In Wonderland' follows the curious Alice as she chases the White Rabbit into the rabbit hole and becomes involved in a madcap and deliciously satiric series of wild adventures immortalized in stories by Lewis Carroll.

Report: At least one person rescued in early-morning Chester house fire

According to reports, firefighters had to rescue one person from a burning house on the 500 block of Norris Street this morning. A fire broke out at around 4 a.m. in a home reports say was occupied by a mother and son.

100 Years Ago - 1918: Margaret E. Mathien and Myrtle Mathien, of 910 Pennell St., Chester, jumped from a moving car at Seventh Street and Morton Avenue yesterday and fell, hurting their knees and arms. They refused to go to the hospital.75 Years Ago - 1943: The petitions of three anti-McClure Republican candidates for Chester offices were thrown out last night by the county Bureau of Elections because of technicalities and alleged flaws in the lists of signatures.

Today in History: July 30, 2018

100 Years Ago - 1918: Albert Berman, of 715 Edgmont Ave., Chester, accompanied by his daughter, had a narrow escape from serious injury yesterday morning at Third and Morton streets. A buggy in which they were seated was struck by a trolley and overturned. A crowd soon collected and refused to let the motorman continue his trip.
