Jolene Hubbard Townsend

Jolene Hubbard Townsend passed away in the hands of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning, August 27, 2019. 
She was born on April 6, 1939 in Sullivan County, TN and resided in Fairfax County VA for 37 years.  Jolene was a graduate of Sullivan High School and retired from the DMV in Virginia.  She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Kent and Madeline Hubbard, and niece, Brenda Smith.

 

ETSU's Dawn Bridwell named Tusculum assistant vice president of admissions

GREENEVILLE  — Dawn Bridwell, an education professional with thorough knowledge of student recruitment and enrollment, has been named assistant vice president of admissions at Tusculum University.
Bridwell will oversee daily operations of all recruitment efforts and manage admission and processing. She will hire recruitment staff, direct targeted recruitment campaigns and manage the budget. Bridwell will also assist with recruitment trips to high schools and community colleges and build even stronger lasting relationships with leaders there.

 

Church Hill crash claims lives of mother and son

CHURCH HILL – The Tennessee Highway Patrol confirmed Wednesday that a mother and son who were involved in a crash on Highway 11-W in Church Hill Tuesday were both killed.
The accident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday when a 2005 Dodge Stratus driven by June Bruner, 85, of Mount Carmel, reportedly pulled out from Richmond Street onto Highway 11-W into the path of an oncoming truck.
The truck impacted the Dodge in the driver's side door. Mrs. Bruner's son Clair Bruner, 62, of Mount Carmel, was in the passenger seat, and both suffered fatal injuries.

 

Gay B. Baker

HILTONS, VA - Gay B. Baker, 91, of Hiltons went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. 
Gay was born on November 1, 1927 to the late Luke and Alice Mae Peters. Gay took great pride in being a homemaker and caring for her family. She loved everyone and enjoyed spending time with her family. Her greatest joy in life was her faith and being a born again Christian. She was a volunteer for several years at MEOC.  Gay was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend to all who knew her.

 

Glinda Marshall Hill

MOUNT CARMEL - Glinda Marshall Hill, 68, Mount Carmel, TN passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at the Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, TN.
Arrangements will be announced at a later date.
Gate City Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Glinda Marshall Hill.

KINGSPORT - Jean Hanz, 73, Kingsport, TN died Monday (August 26, 2019) at Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness.
Arrangements will be announced by Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

 

William N. "Bill" Durham

William N. "Bill" Durham, age 80, went to be with the Lord on August, 26, 2019. 
Family will receive friends Thursday, August 29 from 5-8 pm at Christian-Sells Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 8pm with Pastor Rip Noble officiating. Graveside service will be held at 10 am on Friday, August 30 at McKinney Cemetery.
Gentlemen serving as pallbearers will be, David Cupp, Mike Cupp, Alec Durham, Donnie Gillenwater, Eli Cupp, Seth Cupp, Darrell Miller, and Chad Russell. Honorary pallbearers will be, C.A. "Pete" Renfro, Bill Sharp, Danny Drinnon, Rick Russell, and Edwin Dugger.

 

Opting out of state's offender monitoring program likely to cost Hawkins County taxpayers

ROGERSVILLE — A resolution that would include Hawkins County Sessions Court in the 50/50 state-funded electronic monitoring program for indigent offenders was pulled from the county commission agenda Monday evening at the request of Sessions Judge Todd Ross.
Earlier this month, the commission’s Budget Committee agreed to include the $18,000 needed to participate in the program in the proposed 2019-20 budget, which was approved Monday.

 

Lois Alexander

Lois Alexander, 88, of the Horse Creek Community, passed away Monday, August 26, 2019 at her home.
Mrs. Alexander was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Pleasant Hill UM Church. She was retired from Magnavox after 42 years of service.

 

Food City to support Kingsport Miracle Field project

KINGSPORT — Kingsport’s Miracle Field project just got a financial “boost” from one of our region’s long-time community supporters.
Food City announced on Tuesday the company is teaming up with Visit Kingsport and the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce to raise funds for the Miracle Field project.
A Miracle Field is a baseball field built to accommodate special needs children. Kingsport plans to build the field, along with a pavilion and all-accessible playground, at Brickyard Park.
