Kershaw moves to eliminate the town’s municipal court

KERSHAW – While some small towns use municipal courts to raise cash through traffic fines, Kershaw isn’t one of them.
“It’s not a revenue cow, and we don’t want it to be,” said Kershaw Mayor Mark Dorman. “We just want the laws enforced.”
Town council members unanimously voted Monday to start the process of eliminating the town’s municipal court by the end of the fiscal year.
Dorman said presiding Judge Barbara Lisenby has notified Kershaw officials that June 30 will be her last day.

 

IL father, son injured in hit-and-run

An Indian Land family is still reeling days after father and son were run over by a car, injuring both and leaving the father in serious condition.
The incident happened Tuesday in the Ballantyne area of south Charlotte, when 41-year-old Nathan Green and his 4-year-old son were entering a grocery store, according to news and police reports.
The pair were hit after an unidentified teen stole a case of Bud Light from the Harris Teeter at Blakeney Village shopping center and jumped into a waiting getaway car.

BMS 12-year-old undergoes surgery for leg fracture

Tucker Wallace, a 12-year-old Buford Middle School student, was airlifted from the school Wednesday afternoon after suffering a compound leg fracture.
“He was outside playing and went and jumped on a little hill and landed on it wrong,” said Todd Wallace, Wallace’s father. “When he landed on it, he heard it pop, and felt the worst pain he’s ever felt.”
Teachers and students came to his aid, and called 911. When EMS personnel couldn’t find a pulse in his foot, they airlifted him to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

 

City finance chief Driggers resigns

After just nine months on the job, Lancaster Finance Director Daniel Driggers has resigned effective May 11.
“It is with a heavy heart that I offer my resignation…. I appreciate the opportunity that was given to me,” Driggers said in a Thursday interview. “Council has been really supportive of me, and everyone has made me feel welcome here.
“It’s been a pleasure. I hope that I’ve helped the city during my time here,” he said.
