Fisherman lands lively 400-pound shark off Rhode Island coast

BOSTON — No, this is not Sharknado. Great white sharks have had run-ins with New England boats this week. Fisherman Michael Lorello was very surprised when he dragged up a net off the coast of Rhode Island.
Inside, a 6-foot-long great white shark was showing off its teeth and moving about, very much alive.
Lorello had caught the shark Sunday morning while squid fishing three-quarters of a mile from Misquamicut Beach. The fish was on the boat for less than 10 minutes, and then quickly released back into the water.

It’s the latest salvo between the president and Charles and David Koch, who did not endorse Trump in his 2016 presidential bid and have lashed out at Trump’s spending plans and trade policies.

 

‘M.A.S.H.’ star Alan Alda reveals he has Parkinson’s disease

NEW YORK — Actor Alan Alda says he has Parkinson’s disease.
Appearing Tuesday on “CBS This Morning,” the former “M.A.S.H.” star said he was diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disorder three and a half years ago. Alda says he expects a tabloid will soon publish a story about his diagnosis.
The 82-year-old says he’s not angry and considers it a challenge. Alda says he has acted and given talks since then. He says he could see his thumb twitch in a recent podcast and thought someone would soon do a sad story.

 

As trial opens, prosecution says Manafort lied to evade millions in taxes

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — President Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort went on trial Tuesday in federal court in Alexandria, where prosecutors charged that his personal fortune was propped up by years of lies to tax authorities and banks.
The first trial to arise out of the investigation run by Special Counsel Robert Mueller got off to a fast start Tuesday, as a six-man, six-woman jury was picked – and opening statements delivered – in less than a day.

July was a very humid month, even by summer standards. In Portland, the dew point rose above 70 degrees (when it feels oppressive) 11 times. The very humid weather pattern we are in has some staying power.
