Rockford couple's bequest to Community Foundation grows to $20M

Dr. Louis Rubin and his wife, Violet, left the foundation $15 million in August 2012 to aid a spectrum of community groups for perpetuity. The gift will surpass $20 million when the Rubins’ estate in Florida, where they had retired to, is sold.

9 ear piercing infections traced to Rockford store

The infection, identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, has been confirmed by the laboratory in six of the cases. All are believed to be the result of upper ear cartilage piercings done at a shop in Rockford, said Winnebago County Health Administer Mike Bacon.
