Lake, Geauga high school students prepare for service, leadership project

A group of about 42 Lake and Geauga high school students got an opportunity to learn more about each other and their communities during the 2018-19 Service and Leadership Engagement for Students meeting.The students participated in team-building activities and heard from a panel of community leaders on Sept.

 

Pickleball courts open at Jindra Park in Wickliffe

Longtime Wickliffe resident Joanne Beal is thrilled to see that there are pickleball courts in the city.Beal, who is 81 years old, has served on the Parks and Recreation Commission since 1975. She asked the board to bring pickleball to Wickliffe in 2013."My kids had just opened the restaurant Beal's Pickles and Pints and I said 'wow, why don't we do pickleball,' " she said.

Northeastern Ohio's outdoor arts festivals are wrapping up the season, with the third and final weekend of the 47th annual Yankee Peddler Festival. U.S. Senate passes bipartisan opioid package

In February, a Perry Township man was indicted in federal court for allegedly importing 35 grams of a fentanyl analogue into the U.S. from China.According to the indictment, 58-year-old Karl L. Brewer imported methoxyacetyl fentanyl from the People's Republic of China between March 10 and April 25, 2017.

 

Huron man arraigned in crash that killed Painesville passenger

A Huron man has been arraigned in Lake County Common Pleas Court on aggravated vehicular homicide charges stemming from a Sept. 24, 2017, crash that killed his passenger.According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, 60-year-old Robert McGann, of Huron (who was residing in Painesville at the time), was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling on Route 2 toward Route 44.

 

Painesville Municipal Court judge sentences man to mow Fairport's football practice field

Painesville Municipal Court Judge Michael Cicconetti was almost impressed by the amount of work that went into the crime.Cody Scott, 19, of Fairport Harbor admitted that in June he and his friends mowed obscenities on the grounds of Fairport Harding High School."Why in the world did you do that?" The Lake County Retired Teachers Association hosted its biannual Candidates Forum luncheon Sept. 10 at the Holiday Inn, Reynolds Road, Mentor.Candidates for county and state offices were invited by Tom Moscovic1, Legislative chair, to give a 3-minute presentation describing their strengths to assume or retain the offices.

 

Four Lake County fire departments to share federal funding

Four area fire departments are receiving a regional grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency.Painesville City, Painesville Township, Fairport Harbor and Mentor-on-the-Lake fire departments were awarded $564,546 for the purchase of self-contained breathing apparatuses.

 

Perry Township trustees prepare for final action on chicken regulations

The process of approving new rules for owning chickens in certain subdivisions in Perry Township has moved one step closer to completion.A public hearing that took place Sept. 11 on those suggested regulations turned out to be a quick and quiet affair.
