Stories Related to Comunale Foundation Approves $225,000 In Gifts To Help Families Dealing With Cancer

The Stephen A. Comunale Jr. Family Cancer Foundation will distribute $225,000 this year, mainly to help individuals and families keep up with day-to-day expenses while coping with cancer.In announcing the awards, the foundation said that $188,000 would be set aside in amounts of $500 to $1,500 to provide day-to-day financial assistance to individuals and families touched by cancer.Other grants will go to:• $9,000 for Jane’s Sunshine Fund for random acts of kindness for cancer patients.• $8,000 for Sunshine Bags, containing comfort items in reusable totes and distributed in hospitals to patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation.• $3,000 to continue a partnership with Victory Gallop, providing summer horse camp experiences to children affected by cancer.• $3,000 to continue a partnership with Buffalo Therapeutic Riding center, providing horse camp experiences to children with cancer.• $2,000 to the Art Therapy Fund at McDowell Cancer Institute for projects and supplies.• $6,000 for meals at the Thanksgiving and December holidays to area families touched by cancer.• $6,000 for Summa Screens for free diagnostic mammograms for women who qualify.
