Residents said they were unsure why the senior bus service was being discussed when the McHenry Township Board voted to eliminate it last year. Many spoke out during public comment in favor of the service at a meeting Thursday as trustees once again discussed the hot topic.

Bull Valley home a total loss after Thursday evening fire

A Bull Valley home became a total loss as the result of a structure fire Thursday night, according to a news release from the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District.

Crews responded to the 9700 block of West Bull Valley Road at 6:52 p.m.

 

Area activists enraged with Trump’s actions against Iran

“Devastated” and concerned by the prospect of a potential war, a group of about 17 protesters stood along Route 14 in Crystal Lake to rally against President Donald Trump’s recent actions against Iran.

Eveej Malone, chairwoman of Indivisible NWIL, said the purpose of the rally was to bring attention to what’s happening in “a very peaceful way.”

“War is not good for our country,” said Malone, the protest organizer.

Hundreds made good on their appointments to donate during a blood drive in Deputy Jake Keltner's name at D'Andrea Banquets & Conference on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020 in Crystal Lake. Becki Keltner partnered with the American Red Cross and Concerns of Police Survivors to create the "Jake Keltner Memorial Blue Blood Drive" in her husband's honor. The drive had about 310 registered donors scheduled to give blood, which should easily surpass their 210 pint goal, helping around 630 patients.

 

McHenry County sheriff's deputies investigating stabbing in unincorporated Crystal Lake

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an alleged stabbing in the 6000 block of Acorn Court in unincorporated Crystal Lake Thursday morning.

Deputies responded at around 6:22 a.m. and discovered a 29-year-old Crystal Lake man with wounds consistent with a knife, according to a release issued by the sheriff’s office a little after 5 p.m.

 

Johnsburg man nets jail, probation for 2018 DUI crash

A Johnsburg man whose blood-alcohol content was nearly four times the legal limit during a 2018 drunken driving crash will serve jail time and probation for seriously injuring a Florida woman in the wreck.

Guy Stedman Jr., 49, was sentenced on Thursday to six months in jail and two years of probation on a felony charge of aggravated driving under the influence.

 

McHenry County sheriff's deputies investigating 'possible crime' in unincorporated Crystal Lake

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office is investigating a "possible crime" in the 6000 block of Acorn Court in unincorporated Crystal Lake, but have not disclosed the nature of the incident.

There is no known threat to the public, McHenry County Sheriff's Deputy Sandra Rogers said Thursday morning, but there will be a continued police presence in this area. When asked the nature of the "crime," Rogers said she couldn't comment.

Crime scene tape was not spotted in that block Thursday morning.

 

Lake Barrington man arrested in numerous burglaries, including in McHenry, Lake counties

A Lake Barrington man was arrested on Wednesday in connection with numerous burglaries in McHenry, Lake and Cook counties.

Hunter Grabowski, 24, was arrested at his residence in the 500 block of Beacon Drive in Lake Barrington. He was wanted on a $50,000 warrant for failure to appear in court for a theft case.

 

Lane closure during evening rush hour in Cary to cause delays

Because of water main repair work, there is a westbound right lane closure scheduled for Thursday's evening rush hour on Route 14 beginning at First Street in Cary.

According to a traffic alert sent out by the village on Thursday, drivers should expect delays through the evening rush hour.

 

Fox Lake Thorntons station sells winning $200K lottery ticket

A Fox Lake gas station sold a $200,000 winning lottery ticket in Wednesday's evening drawing, the Illinois Lottery said on Thursday.

The winning ticket was purchased at Thorntons, at 11N. U.S. Highway 12 in Fox Lake. It matched all five numbers – 12 - 15 - 21 - 26 - 34 – to win the jackpot.
