He’s been coaching baseball for most of his adult life. But it’s the art of life that keeps him coming back.“Baseball is my love,” says Wayne Smith, head coach and athletic director at SUNY Orange. “But I get a real kick when former players come back and bring their wives and kids.”“That tells me that they really valued their time here.”Smith, 47, has patrolling the baselines for 16 years now.
