Walking unfamiliar streets and jumping into the unknown in November 1959 were nothing new to Stafford Graham American Legion Post 31’s Ward Faulkenberry. After all, those experiences were what made the 36-year-old veteran a member of the organization. In World War II, Faulkenberry was a 21-year-old U.S. Army sergeant who was among the more than 20,000 paratroopers who landed behind enemy lines June 5, 1944, for the D-Day invasion.
