A 67-year-old man was held captive in his home in Fremont last week when a burglar tried to use the residence as a hideout from the cops after fleeing the scene of a robbery at a nearby marijuana grow house, officials said. Police responded to the scene, where they could see the glow of flashlight beams coming from inside the garage, then heard the sound of people jumping over a fence and spotted one of the suspects on the roof of a neighboring home, police said. Units from the Hayward and Union City police departments, Fremont Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol then arrived to help establish a perimeter and search the area, Fremont police said. The victim tried to scream for help, but Stanley told him to shut up and wrestled him to the floor, pleading with him and offering him money in exchange for staying quiet, police said. Stanley was charged Thursday with assault with a deadly weapon, threatening a witness, false imprisonment with violence, residential burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle, and Antonio Gainey was charged with felony residential burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle, according to police.
