After being drafted as a shortstop in the third round out of Long Beach State in 2016, Garrett Hampson spent a couple seasons at that position before the Rockies began to expand his versatility. Fast forward four years, and the 25-year-old has emerged as Colorado’s primary utiltyman heading into 2020, as Hampson is expected to see time as a backup in the middle infield as well as the outfield. Hampson said he’s “up for the challenge,” as he has been since he began playing second base in Class-A Advanced Lancaster in 2017.
