Joe Schoen was polished, polite and prepared for Wednesday’s introduction to the Big Apple, but the major discouraging takeaway was that he isn’t intent on affecting major change to the front office. He’ll certainly be better at picking players than Dave Gettleman was. That’s a low bar to clear. And maybe that will be enough to take the Giants where they need to go. But Schoen sounded more like a politically savvy GM already assimilated into the Giants’ comfortable and collaborative work model who will only rock the boat as much as he is allowed. Maybe he is just being calculatedly reserved about navigating the choppy East Rutherford waters that have cost three head coaches their jobs in five years.
