Similar Stories to Grafton Township Proposing 10% Property Tax Levy Reduction on Bing News

Grafton Township Supervisor Eric Ruth said for each of the past three years, the township has been able to cut its levy by 10% and he is hoping to do the same this year. According to county records, Grafton Township’s property tax extension – or the dollar amount a taxing district can receive for that fiscal year –  in 2015 was about $1.16 million. In 2018, the township’s extension was about $859,000. Ruth said the board has been very financially responsible, which could allow for one more 10% levy reduction. Both the township’s levy and the Grafton Township Road District’s levy will be discussed, and possibly acted upon, during Monday’s township board meeting. Grafton Township Road Commissioner Tom Poznanski said he still is crunching the numbers on how much he could feasibly cut, making a vote on the road district’s levy unlikely for Monday. Once a local government makes a property tax levy request, the county clerk’s office calculates the tax rate needed to raise the requested revenue allowable by law.
