With its soundtrack selling 45 million copies worldwide and the track “I Will Always Love You” becoming one of the best-selling singles of all time, the 1992 film “The Bodyguard,” starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, is natural fodder for a stage musical. While no one could match the timbre of the pop icon, Grammy nominee Deborah Cox is a great pick for the Houston role of Rachel Marron, both for stage presence and sheer vocal power. Judson Mills plays the title character she hires to protect herself and whom she eventually falls for.
