Center Matt Lee spent only one season at Miami, but he made a big impact.
Lee, who transferred from UCF before the 2023 season, anchored the Hurricanes’ offensive line for a season, and now he is going to the NFL. The Cincinnati Bengals picked Lee with the 237th pick in the seventh round of the draft on Saturday.
Lee was the third Hurricane to be picked in this year’s draft, following safety Kam Kinchens and cornerback Jaden Davis.
Lee, an Oviedo native, was an unheralded prospect out of Hagerty High.
Myles Harden wasn’t a highly touted prospect coming out of high school or a superstar in college, but he is headed to the NFL regardless.
The Cleveland Browns picked the former Miramar cornerback with the 227th pick in the seventh round of the NFL draft on Saturday. He is the third Broward County player picked in this year’s draft, following Dallas Turner, Brandon Dorlus and Jaden Davis.
Harden was a solid player for the Patriots, earning a Sun Sentinel All-County honorable mention in 2018 and first-team honors in 2019.
Jaden Davis spent one season with his hometown Hurricanes, and that vaulted him into the professional ranks.
The Arizona Cardinals picked Davis, who is a St. Thomas Aquinas alum, with the 226th pick in the seventh round of the NFL draft on Saturday. Davis is the second Hurricane picked in this year’s draft, following safety Kam Kinchens.
Davis was a standout for the powerhouse Raiders, earning Super 11 and first-team All-County honors.
A man fatally shot his 18-year-old friend in Miramar Thursday night in what he says was an accident, according to police.
Jevon Thomas and his friend, who police have not identified, were in the 10700 block of North Preserve Way about 11 p.m. Thursday night when the friend shot Thomas, killing him, Miramar Police Detective Yessenia Diaz said in a media release.
Jordan Travis’ career took a devastating turn at the end of his final college season, but now he will get a chance to prove his abilities at the highest level.
Travis, a Palm Beach County star who suffered a brutal leg injury at Florida State last year, was picked by the New York Jets with the 171st pick in the fifth round of the NFL draft on Saturday.
Before Travis excelled at the college level, he was one of the top quarterbacks in Palm Beach County.
