The Iowa Supreme Court on Friday upheld a district-court ruling that found a federal law pre-empts state claims made by property owners suing railway companies for causing the 2008 flood when railcars filled with rocks were placed on bridges in an effort to prevent collapse. The property owners filed the class action suit in June 2013 against the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City Railway Co., Union Pacific Railroad Co., Union Pacific Corp.
