During the ABC telecast of the Warriors’ first-round opener against New Orleans on Saturday, Jackson said he believed new Warriors head coach Steve Kerr should win the NBA’s Coach of the Year for improving the team from 51 to 67 victories. When he returned to Oracle Arena on Jan. 9, he dismissed the importance of a rim-protector and said the Warriors’ defense got better when center Andrew Bogut was on the sideline. Later in that telecast, he spouted a seemingly rehearsed line referring to Kerr improving on the job Jackson believes he started with Golden State. People are going to ask what he thinks, especially with his ties to the Warriors’ organization and myself, specifically. 'Superfan’ sighting: NBA celebrity fan Jimmy Goldstein, who is recognized by his leather outfits and, by his estimation, attends about 35 to 40 playoff games every season, started his 2015 odyssey in Oakland. Goldstein, a multimillionaire who likes to keep the source of his wealth secret (though it is believed to come through Los Angeles real-estate deals), is usually courtside at Staples Center. Kerr and Monty Williams are both linked to Gregg Popovich’s coaching tree, but Williams said Kerr “took the fruit, and I took the bark.” Visiting teams get to choose their opening basket, and New Orleans is one of a handful that chose to shoot in front of the Warriors’ bench during the first half. The Warriors recalled center Ognjen Kuzmic, who helped their NBA Development League team in Santa Cruz take a one-game lead in the Western Conference finals against Austin on Friday.
