Maine’s attorney general is adding the Pine Tree State to a group of 18 states that’s calling on the Federal Trade Commission to protect workers from labor practices it sees as anticompetitive. Attorney General Aaron Frey said the group wants the FTC to spur collaboration between regulators to stem practices that “depress wages, limit job mobility, and limit opportunities for advancement.” Frey said regulators should crack down on practices such as non-compete and “no poach” contract agreements, which limit workers’ ability to move from job to job. Frey said the FTC should ban such practices for low-wage workers.
