From staff and wire reportsMOORE — An unknown number of Moore Public Schools’ students and staff have been identified as fellow cruise passengers of a Texas lab technician who handled an Ebola patient’s specimens, school officials reported. The district is requiring all students and staff who were on the Carnival Magic cruise ship with the Texas Presbyterian Hospital lab technician to not go to school until the district can confirm that there is no medical threat, Moore Public Schools principal Robert Romines said in a statement sent to district parents via social media, emails and voice messages. If a parent has a student that was on the Carnival Cruise with the Texas lab technician, the district asks the parent to call their school and to not take their student to school or attend any school activities. The absences of the students required to to stay out of school will not count against them, and they will be given time to make up any missed school work, Romines said. So far, the lab technician has not exhibited any signs or symptoms of the Ebola strain, but the 21 day incubation period has not expired, Romines said. Romines said the district is in contact with the Centers for Disease Control and that they hope that to have the “all clear” by later afternoon Tuesday. The school district did not identify which schools the identified students and staff attend. Aboard the cruise A lab supervisor who handled a specimen from a Liberian man who died from Ebola in Dallas showed no symptoms during the cruise but self-quarantined out of caution.Read more on NewsOK.com
