Seventh-seeded Samantha Stosur used a power game to topple the No. 1 women’s seed of the French Open.

There will be a Grand Slam semifinal without Roger Federer for the first time in six years.  French Open upset specialist Robin Soderling struck again Tuesday, rallying past defending champion Federer in a rainy quarterfinal, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4.

Women's roundup: While No. 1 seed Serena Williams enjoyed a relatively easy fourth-round win, four-time French Open champion Justine Henin was upset by Sam Stosur.

Venus Williams has been beaten in the fourth round of the French Open, falling 6-4, 6-3 to Nadia Petrova.

Andy Roddick was bounced out of the French Open in the third round by a qualifier ranked 114th in the world. Russia’s Teimuraz Gabashvili, 25, beat the sixth-seeded Roddick in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.

After a rocky start, Veus Williams stole a number of breaks and settled in for a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Arantxa Parra Santonja.

Despite the uncertainties and the rocky past, a first-round exit would have been hard to explain for Andy Roddick.

Top-seeded Serena Williams has reached the second round of the French Open with a 7-6 (2), 6-2 win over Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland.

Roger Federer lost an argument. His tennis was more persuasive.  Miffed by a line call in his first match as French Open defending champion, Federer quickly regrouped to win the opening set two points later, then went on to beat Peter Luczak 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 Monday.

Serena and Venus Williams are the French Open's two top-seeded women, and if it seems as if it's been a while since that was the case at a Grand Slam tournament, that's because it has.
