Stories Related to Ohio Supreme Court Ruling Means Prade To Remain Free Pending Next Legal Decision

Former Akron Police Capt. Douglas Prade will remain free while the Ohio Supreme Court decides whether it will review his case.An appeals court ruling last month that reversed a common pleas judge’s order exonerating Prade in the 1997 slaying of his ex-wife could have sent him back to prison. In Wednesday’s ruling, without comment, the high court granted a defense motion for what is known as a stay, which means that the March 19 reversal by Akron’s 9th District Court of Appeals is on hold.“We’re very happy about it,” one of Prade’s attorneys, Lisa Gates of the Jones Day firm in Cleveland, said.Gates said the best-case scenario for Prade would be if the Supreme Court takes the case for review.
