Sometimes there’s a fine line between reacting with emotion and doing what’s right when it comes to wildlife. Particularly at this time of year. As wildlife begin to have their young, encounters with people are inevitable. Over the next two months, we’ll find newborn rabbits tucked in their nests, newly-hatched birds that have just left theirs and bear cubs exploring the world outside of the den where they were born. There will be fawns curled up in tall grass, turkey poults plucking insects in a field and goslings with adult geese honing their swimming skills in ponds. And all too often, some of us will want to pick them up. All too often when people encounter young wildlife, they mistakenly believe the young animals are helpless or abandoned.
