CANTON: The Pro Football Hall of Fame tossed a Hail Mary to Pope Francis this week.During a visit to the Vatican by a Hall of Fame delegation on Wednesday, Board of Trustees Chairman Randy Hunt invited the leader of the Roman Catholic Church to visit Canton for the hall’s centennial celebration in September 2020.No word on whether Hunt scored a commitment.He also offered the hall’s support for a worldwide conference on sports.The Pro Football Hall of Fame delegation became the first American sports organization to have an audience with the pope, who’s a huge soccer fan.“I am pleased to greet you, the members and directors of the American Pro Football Hall of Fame and welcome you to the Vatican,” Francis said, according to a news release from the Hall of Fame.
