But, he adds, Black votes should not be taken for granted.

But, he adds, when it comes to sentencing, "the fact that he's violated the contempt order, the fact that his conduct, according to prosecutors and the jury, impact in an election," means its "a razor's edge 50-50 call about whether Judge Merchan sentences him to some prison time."

It's hard to predict how Trump's conviction will affect the vote, says David Axelrod, but "The thing to watch is how the two candidates deal with it. Does Trump continued to fulminate in the kind of irrational way he did? He won't be a very good candidate if that's the case.
