The Smithsonian announced today that it has raised $1 billion toward a $1.5 billion fundraising campaign to support its continuing contributions to history, science and culture. The organizational-wide effort is a first for the institution founded in 1846. The funds will support four key areas: Spark Discovery, Tell America’s Story, Inspire Lifelong Learning and Reach People Everywhere, according to officials, who announced the effort at its Board of Regents meeting Monday.
